African Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant, Black Rhino, White Rhino, most people know about these animals as the big 5 and are keen to see them on their trip to Africa.

Why are they called "The Big 5?" people ask. Well a long time ago when hunters came to Africa they did not come to see the magnificent biodiversity this continent has to offer, they came to shoot animals for trophies to hang on their walls at home in order to boast to their friends.

This hunting took place a long time before conservation was even thought of, and there were no laws regarding hunting animals then.

When the hunters came to Africa, South Africa in particular, they showed no mercy for what they shot and were not really worried about the "dangerous game" the locals had warned them of, until other hunters told them stories about; Elephant's charging at them, Rhino's chasing them, people being dragged off and killed by Lions, wounded Buffalo killing their guides and being stalked by cunning Leopards that had developed a taste for human flesh.

The hunters then decided to call these 5 animals, The Big 5, as they regarded them as the 5 most dangerous animals on the African Continent.

Africa home of the big 5 ... the wild continent. The cradle of mankind. A world of animals all want to see and enjoy. Visit and gasp with wonder at the big 5. Africa has got to be one of the most diversely populated continents with regard to wildlife and big game.

Africa is spectacular and if you ever get a chance to visit any African place, take it, and enjoy your trip to Africa... The untamed continent!
