The Gauteng province, the province I call home, is not generally
known or regarded for it's birding or bird variety. You could not
imagine that such a built-up province would have 10 good bird
watching areas, but it does! Some of these birding areas can even
compare with those in other provinces of South Africa...

KwaZulu Natal It is hard to pick 10 of the best bird watching places in KwaZulu
Natal, because I could choose at least 20. KwaZulu Natal is a superb
birding province and plays host to numerous rare bird species. There
are a lot of regions for birding in KwaZulu Natal that are some of
the best in South Africa and even Africa. It was not easy but here
are my 10 best birding areas in KwaZulu Natal...

Limpopo The Limpopo province is one of the best provinces
(Along with KwaZulu Natal) for birding and bird-watching. Bird
watchers come from all over South African to go birding in the
Limpopo province. Of course the
Kruger National Park, which is
in my mind the best birding area in South Africa, is present in
the Limpopo province and many bird species (Over 500) are found
in the park.

Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, the Crane capital of South Africa is where the
highveld and Lowveld habitats meet and where birds from
different habitats come together. Mpumalanga's birding is very
good and there are some prime bird watching hotspots.
