Kalahari Gemsbok National Park

The Kalahari Gemsbok National Park South Africa (Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park)

Information On The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

The Kalahari Gemsbok National Park was proclaimed in 1931 to protect migrating animals, in particular, the Gemsbok. In May 2000 the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa, the Gemsbok National Park and the Mabuasehube Game Reserve in Botswana were all joined to form the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. At 3.8 million hectares the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is almost twice the size of the Kruger National Park and it is one of the few conservation areas of this size left in the world. This wilderness area was the first transfrontier park to be established in the whole of Africa. This park is also known as the peace park and the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park is the most north westerly national park and game reserves in South Africa. It is a great place to visit and with the Kruger National Park the Kalahari reserve is one of the best wildlife areas in South Africa. The word Kgalagadi is derived from the San language (Language of the San/Bushmen people) which means place of thirst...

The Kalahari Gemsbok National Park is a great place to spend time, the only disadvantage is it's location. The closest major town/city/airport is about 250km from the Kgalagadi; Upington. I would advise you to fly to Upington in South Africa's Northern Cape and hire a car to drive to and in the park. All major South African cities are a very long way away from this sparse land called the Kalahari.

All in all if you ever get the opportunity to visit the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, take it, it will be an unforgettable journey and the memories will last for the rest of your life.
