Millstream Farm's Amphibian Species

The Superb Amphibians Of The Farm

The Amphibians of Millstream must really love it on the farm; superb bodies of water and pristine wetlands are found throughout and provide the Millstream Amphibians great habitat to live in. These semi-aquatic creatures are mainly nocturnal, although you often see them sitting on the banks of a dam soaking in the sun’s rays. The most common species of frog on the farm is the Common Platanna, although in summer the Giant Bullfrog (Which is the largest species of frog in South Africa) is also quite common and it’s call can be heard all over Millstream during the summer evenings.

I have (So far) discovered 8 species on the farm, but I am certain that there are close to 20 species of Amphibians present in Millstream. The best place to look for frogs is around water and marshes. Even the smallest puddle will produce frog species. The best time to look for the frogs of Millstream is during the night, by torchlight. Some of these small creatures often venture far from the water’s edge at night, so keep your eyes open!
