Millstream Mammal Species... What A Variety!

Mammal Species Of Millstream

Of all the life in Millstream, the mammals make up most of it. Millstream has quite a lot of different mammal species present on the farm, considering the it is only 408 hectares in size. There are the common mammals on the farm and the more rare mammals that are not often seen, but most-definitely, always present. To date I have recorded 32 different species of mammal on the farm. This is made up of the ungulate species, predators, small mammals, rodents and other animals that occur in Millstream. Here is a list of all the mammals that have been recorded in Millstream:

Ungulates:

  1. Blesbok

  2. Burchell's Zebra (Plains Zebra)

  3. Common Duiker (Grey Duiker)

  4. Common Springbok

  5. Grey Rhebok (Vaal Rhebok)

  6. Mountain Reedbuck

  7. Oribi

  8. Rock Dassie (Rock Hyrax)

  9. Steenbok

Predators:

  1. Bat-Eared Fox

  2. Black-Backed Jackal

  3. Cape-Clawless Otter (African Clawless Otter)

  4. Caracal (Desert Lynx)

  5. Feral Cat

  6. Serval

  7. Side-Striped Jackal

  8. Slender Mongoose

  9. Spotted-Necked Otter

  10. Water Mongoose (Marsh Mongoose)

  11. Yellow Mongoose

Smaller Mammals:

  1. Cape Porcupine (Crested Porcupine)

  2. Jameson's Red Rock Rabbit

  3. Scrub Hare

  4. Southern African Hedgehog

  5. Yellow House Bat

Rodents:

  1. Common Molerat

  2. Common Vlei Rat

  3. Greater Canerat

  4. House Rat

  5. Short-Snouted Elephant Shrew

  6. Striped Mouse
